Just three days after Pentecost Sunday, the Northern Illinois Conference gathered June 8-10 at the Convention Center in Schaumburg, Ill. Members from our churches came to share the gift of the Holy Spirit and celebrate the goodness of God in the first in-person conference in three years. That is 36 months, 156 weeks, or 1,095 days that we had not gathered to be connected in Christ!

Church court modifies ruling on bishop elections

The United Methodist Church’s top court has set Jan. 1, 2023, as the date when U.S. bishops facing mandatory retirement must step down and their newly elected successors take office. That means new bishops will be able to begin their assignments in the usual timespan of nearly two months after U.S. jurisdictional conferences. The Council of Bishops has scheduled the regional meetings that elect bishops for Nov. 2-5 this year.
