NCJ delegates talk anti-racism and future, vote to reduce bishops

Approximately 250 delegates participated in the official North Central Jurisdictional Special Called session via Zoom, and others from across the 10-conference jurisdiction watched it live online. Delegates spent the majority of their time together on three big topics of conversation—dismantling racism, the future of episcopal leadership, and the future of The United Methodist Church.

Since the election of the delegation team in 2019, Northern Illinois Conference delegates have been meeting regularly and diligently, preparing for the upcoming General and Jurisdictional Conferences. Update on NCJ Conference

One month ago, the North Central Jurisdiction College of Bishops made the difficult decision to move from an in-person special session of the jurisdictional conference to a virtual gathering. The College of Bishops also decided to pare down the agenda to focus on three critical areas: the work of dismantling racism, the future United Methodist Church, and the role and deployment of episcopal leadership within the jurisdiction.

The NCJ College of Bishops has called a special session of the North Central Jurisdictional Conference for Nov. 11-13, 2021 in Fort Wayne, IN. There will be no election of bishops at this session aimed at thoughtful and prayerful “conversations about our denomination and its future.”

General Conference to move to 2021

Subsequent to the announcement by the Executive Committee of the Commission on the General Conference that the 2020 General Conference will be postponed, the full Commission met March 21, 2020, to determine the next steps to take in setting a new date.
