Church outreach ministry reaches Hispanic/Latino neighbors

Omar Torres came to the United States seven years ago from Mexico and didn’t speak English. The husband and father of three daughters wanted to learn the language to improve his job skills and do the best to provide for his family. Torres and his family found help at Our Saviour’s United Methodist Church in Schaumburg, Illinois through its English Language Learners (ELL) and Outreach Ministry.

On a bright, sunny Sunday morning this past Labor Day weekend, about 60 people gathered along the beachfront at Crystal Lake for worship, reaffirmation of faith and baptism. Twelve people, both young and old, from Nueva Vida UMC in Aurora, were immersed in the slightly cool waters.

Seeds to Succeed a Success

More than 250 volunteers came out to give back to the community by participating in Seeds to Succeed service projects across the Northern Illinois Conference. The NIC received a generous impact grant from Rethink Church to assist in advertising, planning and promotional materials for Seeds to Succeed.

The New Beginnings Online Thrift Shop officially opened for business in July selling reasonably priced items and offering job training skills to those looking for employment.
