Aurora Cluster Ministries: Feeding the Hungry04-29-2009
20,088 meals, 93 boxes of carefully measured and packaged food, 55 clinically starving children fed for an entire year! Not bad for an hour and a half…right?
On April 20, 80 volunteers from the Aurora Cluster met at Feed My Starving Children and successfully packed enough nutritious meals to feed 55 starving children in 2 Haitian orphanages for an entire year. When the night was done, the group gathered and prayed together over the boxes for blessings and care for those that will receive the donation. The group was then able to taste the food and hear how we can help others in need, truly acting as the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ on earth.
Youth Directors Pam Roberts (Oswego Good Shepherd) and Nancy Vickers (Bethany of Fox Valley) organized the event for the Aurora Cluster, which included youth and adults of all ages. Participating congregations included Oswego Prairie, Sugar Grove, Trinity Yorkville, Fourth Street , Oswego Good Shepherd and Bethany of Fox Valley.
Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s starving children–hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals formulated specially for starving children, which are shipped to more than 60 countries around the world. A single meal costs only 17 cents to produce. For more information on how to schedule a volunteer time, visit http://www.fmsc.org.
